What was demonstrated

According to a COBOD announcement, the Grange Close scheme in Ireland, a terrace of three apartments of 110 m² each (330 m² total floor space), was built by Harcourt Technologies (HTL.tech) with a COBOD BOD2 printer, to ISO/ASTM 52939:2023. The announcement reports completion in 132 working days, against 203 working days for conventional methods (its introduction says more than 200 days). It reports 12 printing days for the walls. These timing figures are the builder's and printer maker's own and have not been independently verified.

Why it matters

If the timing figures hold, printing the walls of a small social housing scheme could shorten build time compared with conventional methods. This is one builder's account of one three-unit building, so it does not show that printed construction is faster in general.

Caveats

  • The timing figures come from a company announcement by the builder and printer supplier, and the sources reviewed did not verify them independently.
  • The conventional baseline is given as 203 days in the body of the announcement, while its introduction says more than 200 days, so the comparison is approximate.
  • The announcement gives 18 days for the whole structure in the body text, but its chart caption gives 18 days for wall construction, so the phase breakdown is unclear.
  • The project is a single three-unit terrace. The announcement does not report cost, durability or structural test results.
  • The announcement does not say how the 132 working days divide between printing, foundations, roofing and fit-out.
