What was demonstrated

In a company press release dated 21 January 2026, Zipline said it had surpassed two million commercial deliveries, flown more than 125 million autonomous commercial miles and delivered more than 20 million items. The release says its deliveries were made without a serious injury, but gives no count of injuries. It says it has more deliveries than all other companies in the sector combined, but names no companies and gives no time period for that comparison. The release does not define serious injury and gives no independent verification of its figures.

Why it matters

A large delivery count is one of the few operator-reported measures of scale for drone delivery. Independent checks of safety and reliability data would be needed before these figures can be relied on, and the release does not provide them.

Caveats

  • All figures are the company's own claims in a press release. No independent audit or regulator report of these numbers was found in the sources reviewed.
  • The release does not define serious injury or say how the sector comparison was measured.
  • The release does not state the period over which the cumulative delivery total was reached. It cites NHTSA data only as a comparison for US driving crash rates, not to verify Zipline's own safety record.
